MiniNova Introduces Embedded Ads for Authorized Content
There are a lot of good things to be said about TV and movie studios opening up to the idea of streaming content. Almost any popular TV show is freely available for streaming, without any fear of copyright enforcement. Legal sites such as Hulu.com also provide a great avenue for streaming video entertainment as well. Could embedded advertising come to BitTorrent communities too?

Unlicensed P2P Value: $69 Billion in 2007
If you could total the quantity of unlicensed tracks within the vastness of the P2P community, then apply a reasonable fee to those tracks, you would end up with a very large monetary number. $10 billion? $50 billion? Just how much untapped money, relevant to the music industry, is circulating in the P2P community? MultiMedia Intelligence, who recently stated P2P growth will top 400% in 5 years, has pegged a monetary number to unlicensed music. The number: $69 billion.

The Pirate Bay Breaks 25 Million Users
The Pirate Bay (TPB) enjoyed another milestone today, breaking the 25 million user, or peer, barrier. Only two weeks ago, TPB surpassed 20 million users, and in January of this year, broke 10 million users. The growth of TPB has been stratospheric, and in less than a year, has more than doubled the size of this already impressive file-sharing network.

P2P Weekly Wrap Up
LimeWire was featured twice this week, for both some good and some bad news. The IFPI touted another victory against unauthorized BitTorrent sharing when the Bulgarian search engine TorrentValley was shut down by local authorities. And there's some interesting RIAA/College student news coming out of Duke University.

TorrentValley Shut Down
With the continuous stream torrent site shutdowns, it would seem that eventually, the stream would stop, right? Not really, as today the IFPI announced another BitTorrent site shut down. This time, it's the Bulgarian site TorrentVallley.com that is no more.

BitTorrent Will Be Fine
By all accounts, the teetering world economy has helped P2P and free file-sharing rebound from the clamors of impending calamity. At no point in the history of file-sharing has the population been higher or grown at a steadier rate. The Pirate Bay, currently the largest file-sharing community residing within the BitTorrent protocol, has surged to nearly 25 million peers. Even The Pirate Bay's blog appears to be in shock, remarking, "Wtf is going on?"

LimeWire Announces Upcoming 5.0 Release
There's some big doings going on at LimeWire - irregardless of the impending legal battle with the RIAA. As one of the last free, original P2P networks, LimeWire has managed to prosper since the beginning of the P2P revolution. Aside from Gnucleus, LimeWire is the last remaining Gnutella application that survived the P2P wars. XoloX, BearShare, and all the other trend setters are gone. But LimeWire remains and today has announced their upcoming version 5.0 with "Social Sharing Network Capabilities."

BitTorrent President Steps Down
It's an end to an era of sorts for BitTorrent, Inc. This may not necessarily be a good or a bad thing, but it's an interesting thing for certain. Ashwin Navin, Co-Founder and President of BitTorrent, Inc. has stepped down from his position, but will retain influence within the company as a Board Director.

MiniNova's Introduces Snotr Improvements
MiniNova isn't letting a potential legal battle with Brien get in the way of a good time. The Dutch based BitTorrent indexer and tracker has been busy with an interesting side project named Snotr, which was launched last year. Snotr is a bit different from its MiniNova parent, as it's a direct resource for watching flash videos. No torrents or BitTorrent, just a niche site accommodating humorous and funny videos.

The Pirate Bay goes for Guinness World Record
There were many super sized P2P networks back in the day. Napster had over 1.5 million simultaneous users, FastTrack had nearly 5 million, and eDonkey2000 had a similar - if not larger - population. Those are impressive numbers, and for a time, were the top contenders for the P2P crown. But then BitTorrent came along.
