Vuze Update Brings Video to any Screen - Except the Wii
Last month, the Vuze team teased the BitTorrent community with the idea of bringing video content to a variety of video screen through devices such as iPhones, iPods and consoles. Today, the 'top secret' project is now live. The updated Vuze now brings the option of streaming video to a select number of gaming consoles and also has iTunes support.

Britons Find Disconnecting Pirates Unpopular Option
A study conducted by ISPreview.co.uk found that disconnecting alleged P2P pirates was a highly unpopular option in battling the transfer of unauthorized material. The UK and France are at the center of a potentially groundbreaking shift in anti-piracy policy, as the entertainment industry is pushing for a "three strikes" approach to stifling unauthorized distribution.

17 Million Fewer CD Buyers in 2008
Remember that round, flat disc people used to buy? You know the ones that a laser pointed at and produced digital music? They're called CDs, if you don't remember, and they represented the way people listened to music before the Internet gave the People's Elbow to the music industry. Things aren't getting any better, as the latest survey from the NPD Group found that 17 million fewer people purchased CDs in 2008 compared to 2007.

Retention Wars Heat Up
For many years, Giganews held the title as the retention champion. Its 200+ day retention has been long admired by file-sharers, as it provides assurance that dusty NZB files will still point to something relevant on Usenet. Lately, however, things have begun to heat up in the newsgroup market. Other top tier providers such as Astraweb and the Dutch provider XS News are pressuring the Usenet market into ever higher retention periods.

BREIN Plans to Move against NZB Sites
Ask just about anyone these days where the pulse of the file-sharing community is, and the most likely answer will probably be BitTorrent. Despite all the glory and power that BitTorrent has, however, it's tough to ignore one thorny issue that's beginning to grind into the entertainment industry: the newsgroups.

XS News Builds Towards 400 Day Retention
XS News, the largest Dutch-based newsgroup provider and one of the largest worldwide, has recently finished a significant retention upgrade: 400 days. Just yesterday, Giganews upped their retention capacity to 365 days.

Giganews Announces 365 Day Retention
Retention continues to increase in the newsgroup community. As anticipated, Giganews announced today a substantial jump in retention: 365 days. Astraweb had briefly surpassed Giganews' reported retention capacity, as it announced in January its capacity was 270 days.

The Pirate Bay Site Down, Trackers Online
Yesterday, The Pirate Bay suffered some downtime, as witnessed by much of the BitTorrent community and reported on by TorrentFreak. This wasn't such a far-fetched reality, considering the massive attention focused on this once Swedish-based BitTorrent tracker. Although the site was online and was operational as of 8:00AM EST, it appears to be down once again.

Vuze Contemplates Top Secret Project
Vuze (the BitTorrent artist formerly known as Azureus) has something up their sleeve. According to their latest blog post, Vuze is thinking of a top secret device that could bring downloaded TV shows to your TV or mobile device. What exactly does Vuze have in mind?

Three Strikes on Hold in New Zealand
Those living in New Zealand can breathe a bit easier today, as the controversial "three strikes" P2P policy is currently on hold. The measure is designed to intimidate alleged P2P pirates with the threat that their internet connections will be permanently disconnected after three warnings.
